Nightmare 101

In the life of a writer this is a pretty big deal for me.  I’m going to a writing conference next week and have secured a “pitch” session with an agent. This of course means nothing in the big scheme of things because that same agent will probably talk to 30 other writers who aspire to become the next novelist they sign.  But it’s a start! I’m thrilled that I’ve been given this chance.  From talking to other writers this is the most nerve bending experience of their life.  Good.  I need a little excitement.  I’ve been waiting for this moment most of my life. I won’t be crushed if they don’t ask me for a sample.  Tears won’t gush forth if they say, “That’s really not what we’re looking for at this time.  Keep writing.” The words won’t dam up behind a wounded heart, never to flow freely again.  It’s all part of the journey. All that sounds so brave! Hope I can pull it off.  To be honest my biggest fear is that I’ll have smeared lipstick or wayward mascara when I go in for the pitch. Maybe I’ll have a chipped nail or trip over something like a tissue making me look like a…well you fill in the blank.  Nightmare 101.  By next week my head will be so full of flub-ups and stutters that I’ll be able to write another book journaling my experiences for some writer’s workshop at the local junior college. To be continued….
