2016 A Year in the Life of a Writer

USA Best Selling Author, Cara Bristol, challenged me to write down all of my accomplishments this year as an author. It really surprised me in several areas. Some places I definitely need to improve and in other areas I need to take a breath to relax. Here are my stats.

Pages Written: 1250 finished pages. I didn’t count the rewrites and research pages I accumulated. That would be just crazy.
Books Released:
Rooftop Angels (#3 in Enigma Series) June 2016
Dance of the Devil’s Trill (standalone) June 2016
Mission K9 Rescue (Children’s Book) August 2016
Dark Side of Morning (standalone) This was completed and ready to go by end of November. However, my publisher thought releasing it in December would not be a good idea, considering the content. So January 10 it is!
Books Read: 17 My goal was 25 so I really need to improve or keep better records.
Movies Watched: 20 There were probably more but I just didn’t get them in the book.
Documentaries Watched for Research: 12 Although I love these things and I know I should have written down more. There were everything from In Space a Year to Building the Acropolis.
Magazines Read: Monthly subscriptions
National Geographic
National Geographic Traveler
Cottage & Country Living
Flea Market Decor
An array of gardening magazines
Miles Traveled: 16,423 miles I know what you’re thinking. She needs a new car! Those miles included a trip to Washington D.C., about 24 trips to Oklahoma, 12 to St. Louis and a lot of speaking and book signings. I’m a little exhausted just looking at that number.
Conferences: Penned Con and the Oklahoma Writers Conference were the two major ones I attended this year. They get expensive so 2017 will be my big year to visit about four.
Memberships:
Sisters In Crime                            Tulsa Nightwriters
Thriller Writers of America        Oklahoma Writers’ Federation
Sleuth’s Ink                                    Ozark Romance Authors

Interviews & Posts

I interviewed about 25 authors this year. I met many more than that. I’m hoping to showcase them in 2017.

Other blog posts were about 25-30.

  1. Wow, lady! You have been busy. I don’t think I accomplished 1/4 of what you did last year. Good luck with 2017.

    1. You would be surprised at how much you accomplished once you write it down. I started keeping track last January in my daily planner. There were some blank pages in the back so I just jotted things down there. I’ve started to do that again. Thanks for dropping by.
