Sizzle in the Kitchen with Author Susan Keene

Today meet Susan Keene in her kitchen at the farm. I’m thinking she needs her own television cooking show. With her parade of animals, an orchard and the life of a farmer turned writer, there just has to be some good stories to tell. What’s cooking, Susan?

My steady helper in the kitchen is Jack, my rat terrier. He lays under my feet the entire time I’m in the kitchen. I naturally stand with my feet at a wide stance so I don’t step on him. He’s a great helper. He moves to where I am so I don’t forget he’s there. It’s why my kitchen floor stays clean. He doesn’t let anything touch the floor.

I love my kitchen. It’s open and airy. Mostly I love my island and the prep area it provides, casual eating, at the end of the bar and it is open to the living room/great room.

Included is a recipe for Strawberry Banana Cheesecake Salad. Even though it is called a salad, its a dessert, light, bright, and something kids and adults all love.

My mother hated to cook. Dad told her when the kids were no longer in the house she would never have to cook again. She didn’t. The only problem with was I, being the baby, lived at home and almost starved to death. Well, that might be an exaggeration. Anyone who knows me knows I never skip a meal. When my children were small, I traveled with Sears and didn’t cook. Now it’s a hobby and I love to try new things.

I dug out the only decent salt and pepper shaker I have and took a picture of it. I don’t use salt. My spice drawer is loaded with every Mrs.Dash flavor ever made. I love pepper.

My passion is to write novels and like every other writer I know, I want my picture posted in an advertisement between Terese Svoboda and JK Rowling. I’m on my third book in the Kate Nash Mysteries. The latest you can find by following the link below.

Who is Roxy Watkins (Book 2 of the Kate Nash Mystery Series)

One day Kate Nash was a private investigator. She had a thriving enterprise, a supportive boyfriend, and the perfect business partner. The next day she was arrested for murder. “It’s not me. I don’t care what you see on the surveillance tape. I was at home asleep.”

The police showed her the film. She couldn’t tell the difference between herself and the woman on the video. She had been a detective long enough to know people spent the rest of their lives in prison on less evidence than the police had on her.

She couldn’t come up with an explanation for who the person could be or where she came from. When she did find out, it changed her life forever.
