Sizzle in the Kitchen with Donna W. Jones

Meet Donna Welch Jones

It’s not every day I get to have the president of Tulsa Night Writers on my blog. She finished up helping with a one day conference for writers in Tulsa, Oklahoma and still found time to come on and share. She’s brought along some deranged dressing for your Thanksgiving dinner too. Let’s give her a big ole welcome!

When Tierney invited authors to post for ‘Sizzle in the Kitchen’ I wanted a turn near the holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas brighten my life: friends, family, faith, food, ribbons, glitter, lights, and all that other shiny stuff.

Holidays are also in my books. Terror’s Grip ends with a joyful celebration. A Christmas wedding in Deadly Search goes horribly wrong.

In Deranged Justice, a murderer is caught on Christmas day. On Thanksgiving Day, in the same book, dinner turns into a family fight when two obnoxious guests shoot off their mouths. One of the characters in Deranged Justice brings sausage dressing to that explosive gathering, and that is the recipe that I am sharing with you.

SAUSAGE DRESSING

16 oz. seasoned cornbread stuffing mix

2 lbs. sage flavor sausage

1 cup chopped onions

2 cups chopped celery

5 cups chicken broth

*Fry sausage until done, stirring frequently to crumble. Drain Sausage.

(I cut the sausage into serving size pieces and microwave them, then crumble after they cool a bit)

*Add remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly.

*Pour into a large baking dish.

*Bake covered for 45 minutes at 400 degrees, then uncover and bake an additional 15 minutes at 400 degrees.

(I cook the sausage and chop the onions and celery the night before then refrigerate).

PS: I did not invent this recipe and do not remember where I found it years ago.

This dressing is delicious and a family favorite. It fits my recipe criteria because the prep is done the day before and it’s easy to make. I like easy!!

  1. Sounds delicious…and easy! I’m also into easy these days, but no matter how I try to simplify my life, it seems to become more complicated. How can this be?

  2. Hi Donna
The dressing sounds yummy. Wish I were near you this weekend, I’d stop in to say hi and bombard you with tons of research questions. The hero in my next series grew up there. Your books sound full of action and hilarity. Will check them out. Happy Writing!
