Tierney James, Author

Lipstick & Danger

Will You Beg For Mercy?

Jami Gray and I have known each other for a while now, at least through cyberspace. It is always fun to see what she is writing. I’m not sure how she manages to juggle so many things in her life or how she makes it look so easy. Somebody map this girl’s brain! Let’s meet her before you grab her latest and greatest exciting escape from reality. I love your office by the way. Take it away, Jami.

I grew up on the Arizona-Mexico border as the fifth of what would eventually total 37 children. Think adoption, not natural methods, as that would tire out any dedicated couple. After graduating with a Bachelor’s in Journalism, along with a three-tier list of minors as my interests changed. I married my techie-geek, best friend from high school, then went on to complete a Master’s degree which put my OCD tendencies to good use.

Deciding the world needed more geeks, we brought forth two teen boys who shall carry the gamer geek torch high and proud. To round out the gender scales in our family, we incorporated two furry female labs to call our own. My three series, Kyn Kronicles, PSY-IV Teams, and Fate’s Vultures span Urban Fantasy to Paranormal Romantic suspense and total ten books, with the eleventh coming in June. When not writing, inhaling coffee, herding nerds, paying bills, or escaping into my worlds, I read. Tons.

Tell readers about your latest book.

My latest release is BEG FOR MERCY, the second in my post-apocalyptic romantic suspense series, Fate’s Vultures

Choosing a side has never been so dangerous…
To trap a cunning and illusive predator, a protector forged in a blood soaked history must partner with the cynical heart of a betrayed assassin. Can the wary pair forge a bond of loyalty before suspicions and betrayals tear them apart?

If you could have dinner with anyone in the past who would it be and why?

I lost my biological mom at six, and honestly, I have a bunch of things I’d love to ask her—especially her perspective on life, what she dreamed of accomplishing, the stories she’d share about her journey, her take on some of my choices—the list is pretty long. There’s a lot of history to that loss, so yeah, the conversation would definitely cover at least a dinner.

What are some of your favorite things?

Books, coffee, time spend with my boys, my dogs, and my husband, conversations with my friends, chocolate, a beautiful thunderstorm, seeing the world through a toddler, music, and sharing laughter.

I’d love to hear some of your best writing advice.

Write. Don’t talk about it, don’t just imagine it, sit down and do it. Ignore the latest “trends”, or those that tell you it’s silly, just write the story that is burning a hole through your soul. That’s the one we’re going to want to read.

Do you have a dream job other than writer?
Once before hubby and kids, I wanted to take my camera and share the human story, as a freelance, globe trotting reporter.

What does your writing day look like?
I write when I get home from my day job and tend to stick to a word count schedule to ensure I hit my deadline lines. However, I share my office with my husband, who’s not a type A personality. His half of the office looks like a storm tore through it, whereas mine is a creative clutter, which is more an ordered chaos.

What led to this new story?

I’ve always loved the what if possibilities of civilization collapsing, so setting a romantic suspense story against that backdrop just added to the overall thrill of the story. Humanity’s survival instinct means that your world can fall to pieces—emotionally and/or physically—and still we find the strength to stand up and keep going. That would be the definition of a survivor, and this series pays homage to that spirit.

Please check out other books by Jami. She will certainly offer a chance to escape the winter blahs. Thank you, Jami!
