New Shoes & Writing

Surviving my first novel pitch left me a little excited and full of confidence.  Although both agents   ask for me to send chapters of my novel I’m not kidding myself about the prospects of having either one of them single me out from the hundreds of queries they receive each month.  Having said that it was a strengthening experience, like exercising.  My second attempt at the “pitch” went better than the first.  It wasn’t that I had butterflies in my stomach.  I just didn’t know what to expect from an honest, to-gosh, agent who looked me in the eye and listened to what I had to say.  Now I know.  Their questions helped me more than lay a blanket of doubt across my dreams of being published.

So today is back to work day.  I gave myself Monday and Tuesday off to catch up on household chores and have lunch with a friend.  Now I’m going to attempt to write a horror story for a contest.  I’m not really into that kind of fiction but I want to try.  Several times during the night my plot woke me up to creep me out.  I’ve got to get this down on paper.

Let me once again encourage all you writers to ABSOLUTELY attend writing conferences.  This last weekend I attended the Ozark Romance Authors Conference.  Not only did I make new friends but learned so much.  Not all attendees were romance writers.  Historical, memoir, western and thriller writers were all wanting to improve their craft.  After everyone’s encouraging words I didn’t mind so much when I got a literary agency rejection letter on Monday.  Buying a new pay of shoes fixed that.
