Writers have a unique set of problems. No it’s not plot twists, character names or pushing through to the end of your WIP (work in progress). Marketing. That’s the big “oh no” in our lives. Tooting our own horn is not natural. It feels like “look at me, look at me” or “buy my book, buy my book.” What the author is really saying is “I hope you’ll give me a chance.” Publishers now expect authors to do between 50%-70% of their own marketing. If you’re an indie author it’s all on you. Here are a several books I’d like to recommend that I’m finding very helpful.
So since I have a captive audience I’d like to briefly tell you about The Rescued Heart. It was born out of my love for mining. Sounds crazy coming from a woman who has a major handbag addiction and cringes at a mud puddle that splashes on a freshly washed car. My husband was a mine engineer in the Ozarks for many years. The culture and people are rich with stories, courage and strength. Yes, there is danger in mining and maybe I do feed on that kind of a buzz. I wanted to tell the story of three people; Big Jim Turnbough, his daughter Fawn and Garrett Horton who loved mining almost as much as he did the boss’s daughter. Garrett is kind of the male version of Cinderella with a hard hat and a stick of dynamic. You can’t keep a good man down–unless your 1000 feet below ground when the mine collapses.
